DIstrict 4 Mass DOT
I have finally connected with the right person in the Massachusetts Department of Transportation who is responsible for picking up the trash on 128 in Essex County! Peter Collette is the man any of you can call to suggest and or complain with grace that the trash needs to be retrieved. His number is 781-641-8406. He is understaffed but I thought we could come up with creative ways to help the situation on the North Shore and improve the health and the looks of the median strip and sides of the highway since it is looking ugly these days. We need to get the police, either local or state, to start issuing fines and earmarking this money to pay for more time along the highway for trash removal.

Cold Winter Blues
So I am an occasional blogger......anyway this has been a brutal winter. We all are looking forward to spring in one month's time. The environment still is polluted however and time just keeps passing on by. What I say to my friends and to strangers is that no one will do anything about it until they see the entire ocean covered in floating trash....but even then I am not sure what the action or reaction would be....I have suggested the idea of the mall recycling centers so every so many miles individuals or businesses had a place to bring hazardous waste and recyclables that are not accepted at the municipal level.....Also leaving our recyclables for curbside does not work since in bad weather or windy weather the contents will just blow out of the open containers......very bad design. Construction containers need secure covers also. We could employ folks to systematically pick up the plastic on the highways, a growing problem in Massachusetts which our local senator Bruce Tarr has done nothing about and I even personally met with him 2 winters ago. I recently called to see if they had any recollection of our meeting and I am sure I will not hear back from them?

Winter postings seem to happen around snowfall. After a long time without much snow we are experiencing a soft fall now in Rockport, Massachusetts. Friends are hibernating and colleagues are trying to catch up in their lives but the world seems still ugly to me....polluted with plastics.
My neighbor works in waste management and he couldn't find a place to recycle my pots. My husband is in the Bahamas where the beach everyday accumulates more plastic. The sand seems light like styrofoam....grey skies, grey limestone, gray clay, hazy horizon, lost nation, and no sensation.
